The UTPR at SCI performs another activity beyond those already seen at the Services X-ray, which is to perform radiological verification of the equipment in order to obtain type approval as radioactive equipment.


According to the statements made by the “The Regulation of Nuclear and Radioactive Facilities” (R.D. 1836/1999 and its modification, R.D. 35/2008), in order to approve the type of a piece of radioactive equipment that incorporates radioactive substances or which generates ionising radiation with a view to its release as a radioactive facility, one of the conditions that must be met is to provide supporting documentation alongside the application for type approval which will show the results collected during the verified tests of the prototype with respect to the conditions of radiological protection.
